Grandma’s Gewürzbrot

Ingredients (yields 1 baking sheet):

For the batter: For the icing:
250 g walnuts 200 g powder sugar
100 g butter juice of 1 lemon
2 eggs a bit of water
120 ml milk
250 g sugar
250 g flour
7-8 g baking powder
1 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp cinnamon
1.5 tbsp cocoa

Chop the walnuts coarsely. Beat the butter until it is fluffy. Add sugar, egg and milk and beat again. Sieve in all the dry ingredients, and add the walnuts. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Mix together with a spoon until well combined to a smooth batter. Spread a baking sheet with baking parchment and spread the batter on the sheet. Bake at 180°C for about 25 minutes. Prick with a tooth pick to test if it is done. Let cool down. Let rest for some time (a day or over night), then mix the ingredients for the icing together and brush the entire cake with it. Let it set, then cut in small bites.
