About Me

IMG_8c150b53da737f74d1eda8ddfed42bcd

HejsΓ₯,

Fritid, the Danish word for leisure, is holding me captured. After moving to beautiful Copenhagen to an apartment that features an oven (Yup, that was almost the only reason to come here πŸ˜‰ ) I somehow got stuck in the kitchen. It’s not about being forced to be in the kitchen or not finding my way back to my room, it is more about discovering my love for baking and exploring and trying out new things. To not only annoy my poor roommate with my “obsession”, I started this blog to share some of my recipes and discoveries – I hope you will find something you like! Whenever my hands are not stuck in flour and dough, and my head is not hidden behind the covers of a recipe book, I also go to university here and try to learn Danish. So, I hope to post one recipe per week – mostly from Germany (where I am from) and Denmark (where I am now), but also from around the world (which I will discover from here) πŸ™‚
Guten Appetit, Velbekomme and Enjoy!

  1. I found a button now where I could allow for comments… Really weird that it doesn’t allow that by default! Thanks again for letting me know! Maybe I can ask you to give me your bread answers anyway, now that it’s possible to comment again? πŸ™‚

  2. Hi. Loved your German bread post today and would have answered some of your questions but couldn’t figure out how to leave a comment. No comment box! I’ve run into this a few other times while visiting your site. Is there a glitch perhaps?

    1. Hi Kathryn, thanks for your kind words and taking the time to comment amyway! It seems weird to me, maybe it’s something that happens when I am posting from the wordpress app?

      1. Yes, that happened repeatedly to my friend. She kept changing them back, but next thing she knew, comment forms disappeared again from her new posts.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, Iove bread baking as well, especially since I like eating the results way more than with sweet cakes πŸ˜‰ and even though I am still learning it, and there still is a long way to go, I enjoy the journey already now πŸ™‚

      1. I agree with your bread feelings! I have a couple other recipes on my blog about bread. I made an artisan ciabatta and a dutch oven recipe (both in the same category as the cookies, just scroll down if you are interested. And, since Friday is St. Patrick’s day I will be posting an Irish soda bread that we really love. Enjoy your bread today!

  3. Hi!
Thanks for liking one of my posts and leading me to discover your blog, it all looks delicious! I love German food like KΓ€sespΓ€tzle and currywurst, I think British and German cuisine have a lot in common in that they’re both great for cold weather, and there are lots of delicious meat in gravy recipes. I don’t know anything about Danish food so I look forward to learning something too. I can’t wait to try some of your recipes πŸ™‚

    1. Hi πŸ™‚ thanks for taking the time to drop by and leaving this kind comment! I love KΓ€sespΓ€tzle and Currywurst as well (I think, you really picked some of the most tasty traditional recipes there are..) And I can tell you that Danish cuisine is pretty similar to that – they also love sausages and pork… However since I am almost vegetarian, I decided to try more of the Danish baking goods rather than their savory dishes and they are awesome! But I hope you will find something you like there as well πŸ™‚

  4. To be honest I’ve always experienced only bad things when it comes to German Cuisine – Snitzel, Sauerkraut and Curry Wurst just doesn’t please my tastebuds – so I find your blog so interesting. I would love to try something German that isn’t from a Restaurant next to the other Danes at Fleggaard. And it seems you could actually make German food look yummy.

Your blog looks so delicious – I love all the vegetarian options – a lot of stuff I would love to try out.
But if I wanted to try something that is of German origin and tastes well – what should I try?

    1. That is pretty funny, I had a similar experience with Danish food! I find it pretty hard to find Danish dishes that are vegetarian… That brings me to an idea – have you heard of something called “recipe exchange”? I don’t know whether that’s a thing or not, but it’s an English and a German food blogger that exchange traditional recipes once a month for the other one to try. I think this is such a cool idea! Would you maybe be interested in doing something like this together?

But now let me think of a tasty German dish… Have you ever tried KΓ€sespΓ€tzle before? Or Dampfnudeln? Both are more common in the south (where I come from), and are probably not the healthiest because of the huge amount of wheat flour, but they taste well! (At least to me πŸ˜‰ ) Otherwise I just realized that it’s pretty hard to find traditionally German vegetarian recipes… There has been a big adaption to a more international cuisine especially in the vegetarian domain… But I will further think about it and let you know, when I come up with something genius!
What do you think about the recipe exchange?

      1. It’s so true – I don’t think I know one traditional Danish Vegetarian Recipe that isn’t some kind of pastry. Like, there is no savory dishes without meat in Denmark.
I am not a vegetarian at all, so I do have a bunch of great recipes for an exchange that contains meat. But I don’t know if you would be interested in that?
It sounds really fun (and a little wierd) to jump into the German cooking – so I would be up for the challenge πŸ™‚

      2. Pastry is absolutely fine with me πŸ˜‰
I am living vegetarian right now, so that could be an issue, but if you’d be fine with that (vegetarian recipes, obviously also pastry) I think it would be super cool!

    2. Well, I would love to try some savory recipes from Germany, meat or no meat. And I do have great danish pastries that I think you would love to try πŸ™‚ I’m thinking it’s okay in that way – don’t you?
